Lycée de Kigali is in earnest preparations for its 40 years’ anniversary.

The celebrations, due next month, will bring together parents, teachers, students and the alumni of the school.

During the celebrations, the school will highlight its outstanding performance in different areas including academics and discipline, according to Martin Masabo, the school’s headmaster.

"We have worked hard to ensure that once students have completed their studies here, they leave with both discipline and knowledge that can help the community. We owe this to our dedicated staff,” Masabo said.

Masabo pointed at recent strong performances in national exams.

In 2014, he said, all 337 students in A’ Level qualified for university admission while all O’ Level students passed in division one except two who came in the second division.

Masabo said the school has started renovating their classrooms and other infrastructure in the lead up to the anniversary fete.

"It is an opportunity for us to improve our infrastructure, for instance, we have some asbestos roofing that we intend to remove and we also plan to erect a fence around the school,” Masabo said.

The school has a total student population of over 1,500

Kato Niyitegeka, the chairperson of the school’s Parents -Teachers Association, said renovation works will cost about Rwf2 billion.

The money will be used to upgrade the school library, computer laboratory, dining hall, among others.

"We are looking forward to giving the school a face-lift and thereafter seek to strengthen our partnership with the private sector and other stakeholders for the benefit of our students,” Niyitegeka said.

He said they also intended to put more emphasis on extra-curricular activities.
