May inflation up 2.2%
Rwanda's inflation rate increased by 2.2 per cent in May year-on-year compared to 0.9 per cent in April due to high prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, the National Institute of Statistics Rwanda (NISR) consumer price index for May indicates.

Rwanda’s inflation rate increased by 2.2 per cent in May year-on-year compared to 0.9 per cent in April due to high prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, the National Institute of Statistics Rwanda (NISR) consumer price index for May indicates.
However, the country’s monthly consumer price index increased by 0.6 per cent, slower than 0.8 per cent the previous month. Food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 3.8 per cent in May, while housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels were up 4.5 per cent overall.
Underlying inflation, which excludes fresh food and energy, increased by 0.4 per cent month-on-month and rose by 2 per cent on annual basis, while the annual average underlying inflation rate rose by 2.3 per cent.
