Rwanda Volleyball Federation is yet to confirm whether the senior national men’s team will participate in the upcoming Africa Nations Championships which will be held from July 20-31 in Egypt, Cairo.

Head coach Paul Bitok wants the team to compete in the continental event to use it as part of preparations for this year’s All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville in September.

Bitok said that, "It will be better for us to compete in this competition, we will use these games as preparations of All Africa Games, and it is one of the best competitions which gives the rakings to the international competitions.”

"This is an important tournament; it will help our players to get confidence and prepare well ahead of the All Africa Games,” the former Kenya international noted.

If Rwanda registers for the continental tourney, it will compete with teams like Algeria, Cape Verde, Gambia, Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Congo Brazzaville Egypt, Mozambique, Botswana and Seychelles.

The last time Rwanda took part in the competition was in 2008, and the national side finished in eighth position.

The top two teams will qualify for the 2015 FIVB Men’s World Cup which will be staged in Japan from 8 - 23 September.
