Reigning champions of the national women’s football championship, AS Kigali and in-form Les Lionnes face-off this afternoon in a league match at ES Mutunda playgrounds in Huye.
With two matches to the end of the season, the City of Kigali-sponsored AS Kigali have already claimed the league title for a seventh record time in seven seasons since 2009, but will come into today’s match eyeing a win to stretch the three-year unbeaten run, according to coach Grace Nyinawumuntu.
Meanwhile, Huye-based Les Lionnes who are vying for the first runner-up spot with Kamonyi, will invest as much efforts as possible in stunning mighty AS Kigali and head coach Innocent Harerimana believes his side can make good use of home advantage to win the game.
Elsewhere, fourth-placed Inyemera hosts struggling Bugesera in Gicumbi while second-placed Kamonyi host Gakenke-based Freedom FC at Remera-Rukoma grounds. Newcomers Nyagatare and Youvia tie-up at Kabagari grounds.
AS Kigali lead the log with 46 points, 10 ahead of Kamonyi while Les Lionnes trail the latter by one point in third place. Inyemera complete the ‘big four’ with 32 points.
