Rayon Sports head coach Fidele Nyirimana is delighted after winning a second consecutive Genocide Memorial volleyball tournament at the weekend.

Rayon maintained their unbeaten record in the tournament since debuting last year, beating APR 3-2 for the second year running in the final and Nyirimana believes that the confidence gained from winning the memorial tourney could help his team to win the league.

Nyirimana said, "Our first target was to win the title again and as soon as we achieve that, then we can set ourselves other targets for the league title. In the meantime, I can’t hide my satisfaction with the way we are going about our business.”

"Every player put in their best , so am happy to win this tournament for the second time, it’s a tough competition to win but it brings competitiveness to our teams,” noted former national team player and ex-National University of Rwanda men’s volleyball team coach.

 In the women category, defending league champions, Rwanda Revenue Authority defeated Nairobi Water for the second year in a row after beating them last year 3-0 in finals.

This year’s tourney attracted 24 teams including 13 for men and 11 for women.  Rayon Sports’ Nelson Murangwa was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the men’s category while Seraphine Mukantambara of RRA took the women’s gong.

Nemo Stars George Aporu (Uganda) was named the best receiver, while Pierre Marshal Kwizera was the best server and Bonny Mutabazi of APR the best setter. Yves Mutabazi walked away with the best attacker award while INATEK’s Peter Bigirimana was named the best libero.

In the women’s category, Charlotte Nzayisenga of RRA was the best server while the best setter award went to Ernestine Akimanizanye of RRA.

RRA (women) and Rayon Sports (men) walked away with Rwf500,000 in cash prizes while second-placed Sport-S (Uganda) and APR received Rwf300, 000 in the women’s and men’s categories, respectively.

Third-placed Nemostars and Vision from Uganda in the men and women’s categories bagged Rwf150, 000.
