Long-serving Member of Parliament Connie Bwiza Sekamana has resigned.
Bwiza tendered in her resignation letter to the Speaker’s office last Friday.
Deputy Speaker of Parliament in charge of administration, Abbas Mukama, confirmed the development, saying Bwiza cited ‘personal reasons’ for her resignation.
"We accepted her resignation,” Mukama said.
Bwiza had spent 15 years in the House, where she served on different committees and in different capacities.
Efforts to reach Bwiza for a comment were fruitless as her known cell phone number was switched off by press time.
Mukama said the next step is to ensure she’s replaced.
"We are going to write to the National Electoral Commission informing them about the vacant seat in Parliament and, by procedure, NEC will liaise with the concerned political party to find a replacement,” Mukama said.
Bwiza is a member of the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF).
