Clash of titans as INATEK face Rayon Sports

Genocide Memorial Tournament reigning champions Rayon Sports will face local volleyball rivals, Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Education (INATEK) in the semi-finals today morning at Amahoro Indoor Stadium.

Rayon Sports thrashed Rukinzo 3-0 (25-21, 26-24, 25-23) to qualify for the final four while Nemostars beat Kirehe 3-0 to book a berth against APR who saw off Sport-S 3-0.

In the other quarter-final game, INATEK beat Diable Rouge of Congo Brazzaville 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-22).

"We know the game will be tough against INATEK but we will minimize our mistakes in the game because we know INATEK is a better team but we are ready for the challenge. Our aim is to make it to the final and defend our title.

We are going to give it our best in this game,” said Fidele Nyirimana, the Rayon Sports head coach.

His counterpart Dominic Sesonga Ntawangundi is aiming to win the Genocide Memorial Tournament title, which he won two years ago with INATEK. He said, "We know what we want. We want to win this title and we believe we are capable of doing that. We will give our best.”

In the women’s category, Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) will face Ugandan side Sport-S while Kenyan side Nairobi Water will meet Vision volleyball club from Uganda.

RRA head coach Jean Luc Ndayikengurukiye is confident that his side is capable of retaining the title, "We played well in the group stages and in our quarter-final game so we will give our best for the last two games and we want to retain the title.”

In the quarterfinals, RRA beat St Aloys 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-12) to qualify for the semi finals while Sport-S beat KAVC to make it to the last four. Vision beat the Botswana national women’s team 3-0 to reach the semi-finals while Nairobi Water beat APR 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-18) to reach the semi finals.

Earlier in the group stages, APR beat KAVC 3-0 and Diable Rouge 3-2 to reach the quarter-finals, while Diable Rouge trashed KAVC 3-0. INATEK beat Cobra of South Sudan 3-0, Sport S 3-0 and Muzinga 3-0 finish first it was Sport S, who finished the second to qualify for the quarter finals.

In the other groups, defending champions Rayon Sports 3-0 and Sky 3-0 respectively. Nemostars beat Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC) 3-0 and Rukinzo 3-1 to finish on top while Rukinzo hit KVC 3-0 to finish the second.

In the women’s category, RRA won over Botswana 3-0 to reach the quarter final as best in Group A while Vision beat Muzinga 3-0 and St Aloys 3-0 to finish top of Group D. Kenya Academy beat KAVC 3-0 and APR 3-0 to finish top in Group C.
