Rayon Sports 3-0 GasaboIsonga 4-1 Unity
The reigning Peace Cup champions APR will be hoping to begin their title defence on a positive note when they face second division side La Jeunesse this afternoon at the Kicukiro Stadium.
Considered clear favourites, the army side is however not taking anything for granted against La Jeunesse following the former’s dismal end to a successful season that saw APR crowned champions with two games to go but picked just one point from them.
APR gave away a two-goal advantage against relegated side Isonga who held them to a 2-2 draw before the newly crowned champions were humiliated 3-0 in Rwamagana by newly promoted side Sunrise on the last day of the season.
APR’s interim head coach Dusan Suljagic told Times Sport, "We do not consider any team small and I have told the players to be very careful and not to repeat the complacency we displayed towards the end of the season.
We know what to do and we shall make sure we win against La Jeunesse so that we stay in the competition because we also want to win it.”
Rayon Sports, Isonga proceed emphatically
Aphrodis ‘Kanombe’ Hategekimana scored a brace to inspire Rayon Sports to a 3-0 win over second division side Gasabo to proceed to the next round where they will meet SEC Academy on June 17.
Isaac Muganza had earlier missed a penalty but Hategekimana broke the deadlock in the 55th minute before Burundian Pierrot Kwizera netted the second goal in the 81st minute. Hategekimana added his second in stoppage time to commence the Blues’ search for silverware this season after they finished a distant fifth in the league, 14 points behind their archrivals and champions APR.
In the other game of the day, Danny Usengimana scored a sensational hat-trick before Olivier Niyonzima added another as Isonga thumped Unity FC 4-1 at the FERWAFA Ground to book a date with AS Kigali in the next round.
