IT will be an exceptional evening of Rwandan culture and beauty at the second edition of the ‘Umwali Belgium’ show slated for  June 27 in Brussels.

During the Beauty and Culture show, ten contestants aged between 16 and 24 will take part in various competitions ranging from fashion to culture among others.

Speaking to The New Times, the organizer of the event; Sabrina Simbi said the girls, who are all living in diaspora, will be challenged to showcase their knowledge about diverse subjects

"We are organising this for girls in the diaspora who are mostly not well conversant with the Rwandan culture to see how much they know about their roots, but it is also an opportunity to portray today’s Rwandan modern girl,” she said.

The girls will go through traditional dance, dress and question and answer sessions before a panel of judges who include Miss Rwanda 2015 Doriane Kundwa and folklore singer Cecile Kayirebwa.

According to Simbi, the show is also an opportunity for Rwandan girls to know more about their culture and also a platform to express themselves, something that traditionally was unheard of. The top three winners will walk home with cash prizes while the overall winner will get a return air ticket to Rwanda courtesy of Brussels Airline, and a tour to Gisenyi and Nyungwe courtesy of Bralirwa.

Artistes King James and Danny Vumbi are also expected to perform at the event.  The event will be preceded by a soccer tournament involving the Rwandan community in Europe earlier in the day.
