APR 86-68 Gladiators
Point guard Odile Tetero stole the show as her game-high 21 points powered APR to a 86-68 victory over Burundian Gladiators during their 2023 FIBA Zone V Women’s Championship opening game held at Lycée de Kigali gymnasium on Sunday night.
Power forward Abigayle Jackson and American combo guard Janai Crooms Robertson added 17 points apiece for the army side while Kamba Yoro Diakite and Elsa Niyonkuru led Gladiators’ scoring with 20 points and 16 points respectively.

APR, who were playing before their home supporters, started off well winning the first quarter 22-20, and the second 25-15 to take control of the game with a 45-35 lead at the break.
Burundian Gladiators reduced the deficit as they claimed the third quarter 27-22 but the military side’s ladies held on to take the fourth quarter 17-9 12 to register their first victory of the campaign.
APR return to action on Tuesday, October 31, against Tanzania’s Vijana Queens. Meanwhile, REG will play their second game on Monday, October 30, against Nile Legends of South Sudan in Group B.

FIBA Africa Zone V Women’s Championship has attracted nine clubs from six countries. The teams were pooled in two groups.
APR are drawn in Group A, alongside Equity Bank (Kenya), Vijana Queens (Tanzania) and Gladiators (Burundi) while REG found themselves in Group B with KPA (Kenya), JKT Stars (Tanzania), Nile Legends (South Sudan) and JKL Lady (Uganda).
