Umubano Blue Tigers (UBT) registered their first win in the national volleyball league after beating Nyanza-based Lycee de Nyanza 3-1 on Saturday.

Umubano has struggled in the league but on Saturday they managed to get the first maximum points of the season after dominating the high school side in four sets; 25-22, 25-18, 25-17 and 25-20.

The match of the day between INATEK and Rayon Sports was postponed due to heavy rains in Ngoma District.

The home team, INATEK had won the first set and were also leading the second set 12-7 before the match was called off. UBT are still bottom of the league with 4 points, one point behind 7th placed Rusumo High School and six points behind Lycee de Nyanza. Elie Mutabazi’s UBT side need to beat Rusumo High School and Kirehe to stay in the league.

"We need to win these two games which will help us to avoid relegation, we are more determined than before, and we are ready for every game,” Mutabazi said.

Meanwhile, after the disappointment of losing to Kirehe last weekend, defending champions, APR trounced Kigali Volleyball Club 3-0, while Kirehe made the top four after beating Rusumo High School 3-0.
