This is with reference to your article, "Premier Murekezi calls for more job opportunities” (The New Times, May 26).
The initiative taken by the Government of Rwanda in organising a two-day regional forum dubbed "Employment Promotion for National Development” is commendable.
As Prime Minister Murekezi very rightly stated, "Unemployment is a universal challenge”.
However, now is the time for Africa to reverse the trend.
With the conducive business environment that’s currently prevailing in Rwanda, Indian companies, and indeed businesses from many other countries, are all eyeing Rwanda as a good "entry point” into Africa.
Jain Irrigation Systems, for example, is one of the many companies that has made Rwanda their regional hub.
There are several other Indian companies that have set up shop in Rwanda and this is helping to tackle the issue of unemployment.
We are working very seriously towards bringing in labour intensive companies from India, which will also contribute towards promoting youth employability.
Francine Niyonsenga, a member of Agakiriro in Ngororero District, is a glowing example that "self-help is always the best help”. With the support from Workforce Development Authority (WDA), she not only got herself self-employed, but now also offers training to others.
The Indian Merchants’Chamber, a Premier Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has already signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Rwanda Private Sector Federation and would be very pleased to support the private sector as well as the Government of Rwanda in their quest for excellence.
