A special exhibition that showcases local artworks kicked off at Ivuka Art Gallery in Kacyiru, Kigali on Saturday. Several art lovers and visual artists participated in the opening ceremony on May 23.

With the theme "Spontaneous Rhythms”, the exhibition presents the fusion of three different styles. A total of 25 items adorn the walls of Ivuka Art Gallery. The exhibition features three local painters, Bruce Niyonkuru, Moses Izabiriza and Jackson Manzi and it runs until June 23.

"The diversity of the work communicates the depth of talent within the public and showcases what is normally hidden,” said Manzi.

Among the artworks on display, one of them called, The Journey Goes On is quite captivating. It shows women riding bicycles with babies draped on their backs.

Manzi said that The Journey Goes On artwork was inspired by his trip to Bugesera District, in the South Eastern. It goes for 450 USD.

"When I was in Bugesera, I was told that when girls are getting married, it is the culture for the bride to bring a bicycle to her new home. This is because they use the bicycle for many purposes, for example fetching water, collecting firewood and other chores,” he explained.
