It is the responsibility of everyone in the country to tell the truth about the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. 

"We should look out for material published on different media platforms that revisionists use when trying to minimise what happened during the Genocide,” Dr Jean Damacene Gasanabo, the director general, research and documentation on Genocide at the National Commission for the Fight against the Genocide (CNLG).

Dr Gasanabo was on Tuesday addressing students at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Kigali Campus, about the strategies for effective fight against Genocide denial.

He cited ignorance among western media, which many ill-intentioned elements take advantage of to feed them with lies that suit their own narrative.

It is up to people like students to use the media and other means to demystify these lies, he said.

"There are a number of media outlets that deliberately disseminate wrong information about the Genocide but we cannot continue listening to that and do nothing about it,” Gasanabo added.

Anthony Luvanda, the director, at the university, Kigali Campus commended efforts by CNLG.

"It is up to all of us to continue visiting Genocide memorial sites and ensure that they are well preserved for purposes of remembrance because we all need to learn from this history,” Luvanda challenged his students.
