A former Managing Director of The New Times Publications, John Bosco Sanyu was yesterday arrested for allegedly forging a document. The police say he is being held in police custody and will be produced in court within 72 hours after investigations are concluded.

The police say he is being held in police custody and will be produced in court within 72 hours after investigations are concluded.
According to sources, Sanyu produced a document in court which had a forged signature of some officials in a case brought againt his by The New Times.
He faces numerous counts of embezzlement while he was the MD of The New Times.
In a telephone interview yesterday, the deputy Prosecutor General, Alphonse Hitiyaremye said that Sanyuproduced the forged in court as part of his defence against one of the several counts of embezzlement he faces.
Among the the crimes he is alleged to have committed, Sanyu is said to have taken Frw2 million from The New Times every month claiming that it was contribution to Umutara University but the money ended in his pockets.
According to the prosecution, Sanyu misapproprieted up to Frw51,216,820 million when he was at the helm of the newspaper.
He is believed to have withdrawn money from the company’s accounts using cheques and on various occasions, signed them for other people without the company Board’s knowledge.
When the board noticed this, it suspended him and instituted an audit which discovered the mass scam.
