Topflight teams will commence their search for Peace Cup glory from May 30-31 when they take on among many other sides, the seven winners of the first round fixtures that were played over the weekend across the country.

Giants including AS Kigali and Police will be up against Pepiniere and Aspor respectively on May 30 while Sunrise FC who finished fourth on the league table standings will face Interforce the same day in Rwamagana.

AS Kigali head coach Eric Nshimiyimana will be hoping to clinch the Peace Cup for a place in next year’s CAF Confederations Cup having missed out on the league title by just three points.

He said, "Winning the Peace Cup is our main target now and surely we have corrected our mistakes in the league and as we all know, tournament football is different from the league so we shall be hoping to build on our Ombudsman Cup victory.”

AS Kigali won the 2013 Peace Cup under coach Andre Cassa Mbungo and went on to the third round of the CAF Confederations Cup falling to Morocco’s Difaa El Jadida in their debut appearance at the continental tournament.

Mbungo, who is currently coaching Police FC is hoping to replicate what he achieved with AS Kigali at the law enforcers but he is aware of the tough challenge that lies ahead.

Meanwhile, Rayon Sports take on Gasabo United on June 3 while the reigning champions APR will take on La Jeunesse on June 4 as they bid to defend their title.

The final will be played on July 4 as is the custom, a day celebrated in Rwanda as the Liberation Day. This year’s winner will represent Rwanda in the 2016 CAF Confederations Cup.
