Despite staying at the helm of the National Women’s Football League since the opening day of the season, AS Kigali coach Grace Nyinawumuntu says her team has had the toughest season in seven years.

Former Rwanda international central defender, Nyinawumuntu, admitted to going through a rough campaign after losing a fifth key player, Othilie Dusingizimana to injury last week—the full-back has a back problem and is set for MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) at King Faisal hospital today.

Four other players, who are in the AS Kigali sickbay include’ team captain and the 2013 Female Player of the Year, Shadia Uwamahirwe (striker) and first choice goalkeeper Judith Ingabire, who has not made a single appearance this season as well as Alice Kalimba and Saida Ntagisanimana who got injured in March.

However, Ingabire and Kalimba have started light training and jogging while Ntagisanimana is set to join them next week.

"We have had the toughest season due to injuries to key players, but thanks to the reserve players and some junior team players who have covered up for their seniors, we have been able to again dominate the league,” Nyinawumuntu told Times Sport on Wednesday.

Currently, AS Kigali are eleven points clear on top with five matches to play, a win against Rambura next Wednesday and a win or draw against Nyagatare on May 30, will secure the City of Kigali-sponsored side a seventh successive league title.
