Rayon Sports coach Jean Baptiste Kayiranga has challenged his players to finish the season on a high by winning the Peace Cup tournament that runs from May 24 - July 4.

Kayiranga said the only chance of playing in the CAF Confederations Cup next year is by winning the Peace Cup, but admits it will be tough against the likes of defending champions APR as well as other genuine contenders like AS Kigali and Police FC.

"There is more confidence in the team now especially after winning the last three games. It will not be easy considering the kind of opposition but this is a club that is used to competing with the best,” Kayiranga said.

Kayiranga took over from DR Congo’s Andy Mfutila who was sacked in March after a string of poor results and has stabilised the Blues by restoring discipline in the team and weeding out players that were deemed ‘bad apples’.

Rayon Sports have had a poor season by their standards and are currently 4th in the National Football League with 37 points. APR are reigning champions having won last year’s edition following a 1-0 win over Police in the finals to lift their eighth league title since 2002.

The preliminary round will be played by 14 teams; the top seven teams in the second division last year and the top seven teams in this year’s second division league. The winners of the games will take on clubs in the top flight league.
