Visiting Governor of the 11 countries which make up District 9150 of the International Rotary Club has hailed the efforts of Rwanda’s Rotary Clubs.

Pierre Louis Kasongo Makanda, who is in the country for a one week tour, made the remarks in an interview with The New Times this week.

Rwanda’s Rotary Clubs include Mont Jari Rotary Club, Virunga, Rotary Club of Kigali and the Rotary Club of Butare.

"The performance of the three Rotary clubs in Rwanda is very good, the level is very high, I’ m happy to see how our friends in Rwanda work in the name of Rotary,” he said.

During his stay, he will visit and inspect various activities undertaken by the three Rotary clubs.

The governor disclosed that the quality and nature of the different welfare and developmental activities that Rwanda’s rotary clubs undertake is an indication of a committed and willing group ready to serve people above self.

Kasongo Makanda also congratulated the four clubs in Rwanda upon the good working relations and collaboration, which has seen them accomplish many of their objectives as a team. He urged them to continue the spirit.

Kasongo Makanda later met with the Prime Minister Bernard Makuza yesterday.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, the Makuza acknowledged the great work done by Rotary clubs in Rwanda, saying their work supplements government’s efforts.

"We are so grateful to the Rotary club for the several developments it has put in place, for instance constructing water sources, the public library, houses for vulnerable people and many other projects,” said the Premier.

"They have good plans which are not in any way controversial to government programmes, but work towards accomplishing the government’s vision,” he added.

Ambassador Zephyr Mutanguha, the president of Virunga Rotary Club, commended all Rotarians for their ‘impressive work’.

"This is a big day for us, we are happy that our efforts have been acknowledged. However, this calls for more commitment in our activities to achieve more,” said Mutanguha.

He disclosed that the Rotarians got a chance of discussing their plans and priorities with their governor.

"He liked our undertakings and promised to personally help us in fulfilling our dream, through lobbying for us internationally, and through other ways possible,” added the Virunga Rotary Club president.

The governor and an entourage of Rotarians visited the different projects undertaken by the three rotary clubs in Kigali, among which included Ndera mental hospital-where Mont Jari Rotary Club started a cattle rearing project, and also facilitated the psychology laboratory with a full set of testing kits.

They also inspected Kigali public library, being constructed by Virunga Rotary Club. The facility which is near completion has so far consumed $2.2 million.

The Rotary club of Kigali has previously donated orthopedic materials to the King Faisal Hospital among other activities.
