Rwanda’s national team, Amavubi, will get a new head coach not later than next week, the Ministry of Sports has said.
The national team coaching hot seat has been vacant since former coach Carlos Ferrer mutually left the job in August to take charge of Belarus in the EURO 2024 qualifiers. In the Spaniard's absence, Rwanda FA Technical Director Gerard Buschier took charge of the team as caretaker during 2023 AFCON qualifier against Senegal in Huye on September 9.

Times Sport has learnt that Ferrer’s replacement will be announced next week following month-long talks with potential candidates for the job.
"We expect to name a new head coach in a week’s time and I will positively let you know," an official at the Ministry of Sports told Times Sport.
Rwanda, under Ferrer, failed to qualify for the AFCON finals which will take place in Côte D'Ivoire in January 2024, as they finished bottom of Group L in qualifiers.
A tough task awaits the new head coach to lead Amavubi during the forthcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Rwanda was drawn in Group C alongside Nigeria, South Africa, Benin and Zimbabwe.
The East African country begins the qualifying campaign against Zimbabwe on November 13 before traveling to Johannesburg to face South Africa five days later.
