Hope Academy students who last week participated in an international environmental conservation contest made their school and country proud after bagging gold and bronze.

 The competition dubbed ‘Golden Climate Olympiad’ was held in Mombasa Kenya and involved 160 projects from about 25 countries.

Hope Academy students’ teams were placed first and third overall with the gold medal going to Ishimwe Karimba (Grade 6) who presented an organic, homemade insecticide derived from pyrethrum.

Brothers Peter and Patrick Ejiofor (Grades 8 and 6, respectively) were placed in the bronze position after presenting a project on gorilla conservation.

This is the fifth edition of the contest.

 Last year, students from Hope Academy won a bronze medal in the same contest.

 This year, the students are also listed amongst the finalists for GENIUS USA, another global contest and will next month participate in a Romanian students’ competition Infomatrix.

The headmaster Isa Gokturk Yilmaz said he believes his students will keep winning more medals. "We hope to be able to add more medals to our collection and celebrate more students achieving their potential,” he said.
