The second last edition of the prestigious Mutzig monthly mug will have a shot-gun tee-off this afternoon at the Par-72 Kigali Golf Course.

According to the Kigali Golf Club public relations officer Henry Rugamba, a big crowd is expected to grace the 18-hole event.

Rajan Tiwari and Phillip Jacob are chasing for a hat-trick of mugs after back to back mugs in July and August.

Richard Gakuba in August became the first golfer to win a hat-trick of mugs.

After back to back mugs in June and July, the handicap 15 player continued with his rich vein of form in August after playing seven under at the Par-72 golf course to finish atop in the second competitive category (handicap 10-18).

Meanwhile, Rwanda’s professionals Emmanuel Ruterana and Jean Baptiste Hakizimana returned to Uganda for yet another attempt to break the curse at Kampala’s Kitante Golf Club.

The duo faltered during last week’s Uganda Open and are desperate to put things right today as the three-day Ladies Open gets underway.

After attracting a handsome sponsorship package of Shs 15m (Frw 5m) from Uganda’s Standard Chartered Bank, it is said that the organisers have also organized a professional tournament as part of the subsidiary categories for the amateur event.

Unlike Rwanda, the main event has attracted competitors from Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and hosts Uganda.
The 54-hole event will be played under the strokeplay format for ladies with handicap 20 and below.
