Volleyball players promised $1000 bonus if they win Zone V tourney

The Rwanda Volleyball federation has staked $1000 (Rwf0.7m) for each national team player if they win the Zone 5 volleyball tournament that starts on Saturday.

The Rwanda Volleyball federation has staked $1000 (Rwf0.7m) for each national team player if they win the Zone 5 volleyball tournament that starts on Saturday.

"We have promised them that to win this competition will not only make many people proud but there is a financial reward of $1000 (Rwf 0.7m),” Gustave Nkurunziza, the president of the Volleyball federation said.

The winners of the 3 day competition will qualify for the All Africa Games slated for 4-19 September in Congo Brazzaville.

Rwanda will start their campaign against Uganda on Saturday before meeting Burundi on Sunday and wind up with Kenya on Monday.

In 2011 Rwanda beat Kenya 3-2 at Amahoro Stadium and qualified for the All Africa Games in Mozambique.

Meanwhile Kenya national Head coach, Geoffrey Omondi named 12 players ahead of the tournament and they include setters; Elisha Aliwa, Daniel Kiptoo, right attackers: Phillip Maiyo, David Kirwa, Centers: Hudson Wanyama, Wesley Rono, Rodgers Kipkirui, left attackers; Denis Mokua, Michael Chemos, Michael Njoroge, Sila Kipruto and Libero: Peter Kibata.
