The three-day memorial tournament will be played from Friday to Sunday at Amahoro indoor stadium.
The accident occurred at Nkoto in Kamonyi District when the Kigali Basketball Club team was travelling to Huye District for a league game against University of Rwanda- Huye Campus. That accident claimed a total of five people and many others were severely injured.
Five local teams and one from Burundi will compete for the trophy. The teams include; reigning league champions Espoir, APR, Cirecle Sportif de Kigali, Patriots, United Generation and Dynamo (Burundi).
Rutayisire also played for Uganda’s most successful basketball club, Falcons between 2000 and 2005, before joining APR in 2005 until 2008, winning three league titles with the army side.
