Nyagatare FC pulled off probably the biggest win so far in the second division national league after defeating high-flying La Jeunesse 1-0 in Pool A at Mumena stadium on Wednesday.

The Nyagatare-based side got the winning goal through their captain Abdul Nahimana who took his tally for the season to six goals.

According to Nyagatare FC head coach Aimable Sambro Abdu Tuyisenge, the victory over table leaders is a sign of how far the club is aiming to go and also congratulated his youthful team for their performance against a side primed for promotion to the top flight division.

"I’m excited, but congratulations to my boys for the brilliant performance. We still have a lot of work ahead, we need to keep calm and concentrate till the end of the season. We want to finish in top four in our Pool,” Tuyisenge told Times Sport on Thursday.

As it stands, despite the mid-week defeat, La Jeunesse still top Pool A log with 30 points, 2 ahead of Nyagatare. Bugesera and Sorwathe jointly top Pool B with 31 points apiece while Muhanga and Rwamagana come third and fourth with 28 points each.
