NORTHERN PROVINCE

MUSANZE — Imbuto Foundation an initiative of the First Lady, Jeannette Kagame that promotes child rights has plans to reward nine people who have showed exemplary care towards adopted children in each district.

Three people who have led different campaigns which  include, ‘Treat every child as your own’, ‘Speak out against adults infecting children’ and ‘Talk to your children about sex’ will be rewarded with heifers later this month.

According to Aline Murangira, an official of Imbuto Foundation, a search committee has been set up to identify the possible beneficiaries of the rewards.

Murangira said that the rewards, are part of a wider campaign to involve communities in the fight against child abuse and ensuring proper treatment of the adopted children.

During a recent meeting with committee members from the districts of the Northern Province, officials of Imbuto Foundation explained that eligible winners of the cows include people of integrity caring for children under the age of 20 years.

They also include those who have previously reported child abuse related crimes to the police.

Others to be recognized will be those who have adopted children for at least more than two years.

Murangira added that unlike other strategies that rely on youth to protect themselves, Imbuto Foundation calls for speaking directly to adults about their roles as protectors and guardians of children, and promotes the values of collective responsibility for children.
