Anastase Uwimana, a resident of Gashari Sector Karongi District, allegedly assaulted his 61 year old mother with a machete after an argument on Sunday.

The 27 year old suspect was immediately arrested and is held at Gashari Police Station, while the victim, who was seriously injured on the head, was rushed to Mwendo Health Centre for treatment.

Police have urged the public to desist from any form of violent conduct that may undermine security and instead report any grievances to authorities.

The call was made by the Police Spokesperson for Western Province, Inspector of Police Theobald Kanamugire.
