According to Renaissance, an education online blog, with growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work.
In a workplace where there is a growth mindset, employees are more dedicated to making themselves better at work, to be remarkable employees but also they are more goal-oriented.
Annie Ikirezi, a leadership coach, says that people who work in a workplace where there is a growth mindset, are eager to learn and welcome challenges and changes without fear.
"Employees that have a growth mindset are always looking for change and improvement, they also believe in hard work and effort which is important and beneficial for a workplace. There are so many ways employees can be trained for a growth mindset, first, you can challenge your employees, and motivate them to excel in all they do, show them that they need to move from one place to another even if they start with small steps, encourage them to think that they can reach a satisfying place if they worked for it,” she says.
She also adds, "Secondly, teach your employees to embrace their imperfections if they keep working for perfection and ignoring or hiding from their weaknesses they will never learn anything from them, remind them that they are humans that make mistakes and that mistakes are lessons”.
Isaac Masaka, coach, and mentor says that not all employees will be easy to train for a growth mindset, some have a fixed mindset and therefore, the workplace needs to foster a culture of learning and teaching.
"Some employees have a fixed mindset, the kind of mindset where they believe that they don’t need to improve or excel because their talent or intelligence is fixed. Those people can be hard to train about a growth mindset, but there has to be a constant culture of teaching them something new every day, letting them know that even if they believe so, there will always be change and nothing remains fixed. When people are in an area where they constantly learn about new skills they definitely change their mindsets,” he says.
KnowledgeCity, an online employee training platform, provides a few ways to train employees for a growth mindset:
•Encourage your employees to believe in themselves. Show them that their talents and skills can be built upon by putting in the time and effort.
•Show them that failure leads to success. Give your employees time to improve what was not successful the first time. Failure does not define a person. Learning from failure is an important part of a growth mindset.
•Provide feedback yourself and encourage employees to get feedback from other people. Different points of view can be invaluable in defining your areas of development.
•Help them love what they do. Those who love what they do are more motivated to grow and rise to the top more organically.
•Teach tenacity. It forms part of a person’s character and is essential in working towards a goal. This is what separates an amateur from a professional.
•Be inspirational and lead by example. Those with a growth mindset love to see others succeed as well. Their genuine happiness and excitement for others translate to their own success.
•Acknowledge that one size does not fit all. One type of training may not work for everyone, so be open to different learning paths and styles.
