UNIVERSITY Of Rwanda College of Arts and Social Sciences (UR-CASS) lost 49-61 to IPRC-South in the national basketball league yesterday. It was UR-CASS’s ninth defeat in 11 games this season.
League newcomers IPRC-South, who host reigning champions Espoir BC in Huye this morning, claimed the first quarter 18-14 but lost the second one 15-13 to go into half-time break leading 31-29.
But Didier Bineza’s IPRC- South side returned for the final two quarters more energetic and overpowered their opponents 11-07 and 20-13 respectively thanks to 19-year old shooting guard Patrick Ngabonziza and Congolese-born powerful forward Yesman Bushiri.
The Huye-based varsity side that has only managed to win against Rusizi and University of Rwanda College of Education (UR- CoE) so far, face fellow stragglers, 30-Plus this morning at Huye campus gymnasium hoping to notch a third victory, according to head coach Charles Mushumba.
In the women’s league, defending champions Ubumwe BC defeated The Hoops Rwanda 57-51 while IPRC-South won 25-21 over UR-CASS.
Meanwhile, Patriots BC amassed free points for a walk-over at the expense of United Basketball Generation (UGB) after the latter failed to turn up for the scheduled game at NPC gymnasium on Friday evening.
