The file of a policeman who shot to death an army officer last week has been transferred to the High Court for prosecution. This was revealed yesterday by the deputy Prosecutor General, Alphonse Hitiyaremye.

Sergeant Innocent Gatete is accused of Killing Lt. François d’Assise Munyemana last Thursday in Kicukiro. The suspect was the escort of the Minister of Internal Security, Musa Fazil Harerimana.

"Investigations have been completed and we are going to hand in the file to the High Court today,” Hitiyaremye told The New Times.

Hitiyaremye said that Sgt. Gatete who faces charges of murder, risks the maximum sentence of life in prison if found guilty, though he did not give any details pertaining to what could have caused the killer to shoot the late Lt. Munyemana.

Gatete, who admitted committing the crime, was arrested last week at the Minister of Internal Security’s residence in Kicukiro.
