The Urban Boyz received a standing ovation at the annual Gidi cultural festival in Lagos, Nigeria, last weekend. Although the group performed without group member Mohammed Nizzo who was not feeling well, they put up a thrilling performance and also managed to record a song with Nigerian music star Timaya.
Group member Nizzo joined other members, Humble Gizzo and Safi Niyibikora for the recording of Show me love song in Nigeria. The song was released this week. Enetimi Alfred Odon aka Timaya is the most listened to musician in Africa, according to YouTube hits. His song, Bum Bum with Jamaican super star, Sean Paul has more hits than any other song in Africa. Humble Gizzo said the collabo with an international artiste is a good thing for the group and the country. "If our music spreads across the continent, our country will be recognised as well as our songs. We got the chance to record with Timaya after performing at the cultural festival. We performed four songs including Tayari, Barahurura, among others. We got positive feedback from the people in Nigeria while appearing on radio and TV shows.”
The festival attracted people from Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania and Rwanda. While in Nigeria, Urban Boyz met several artistes and were able to share their experience.
"We met and shared a stage with strong performing artistes in Africa. We shared our experiences in the music industry with big artistes and we were able to conduct interviews with various media houses. Our popularity as a group is increasing and we owe this success to our fans,” Gizzo said.
This is the second time the Urban Boyz trio are recording a collabo with a Nigerian artiste. Last year, they recorded Tayari with Iyanya. The song received massive airplay including on international stations such as Trace TV. Before leaving the country, the group managed to raise more than Rwf 4m from loyal fans to facilitate their trip to Nigeria.
