The national U-16 boys and girls teams have started daily training sessions at Amahoro indoor stadium ahead of the Zone V Basketball tournament slated for May 5-3.
Ten countries that include; Burundi, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda are expected to participate in the one-week event in Rwanda.
The winners will qualify for the Fiba Afrobasket U-16 tournament with the girls’ edition scheduled for July 16-24 in Madagascar and the boys’ edition in July in Mali. Egypt has already qualified in both categories.
Coaches Charles Mushumba and Albert Buhake are expected to name the final 18-member squads in the boys and girls categories on Friday. The teams will then immediately enter residential camp.
