MTN Rwanda plans to introduce an improved version of Tuvugane and Tel’imbere public access phones. The new handset will allow vendors to sell voice calls, SMS and airtime.

The development comes after MTN launched the paperless M-charge service. With this technology, airtime can be purchase and vended The M744 GSM telephone that has been on the market for the last four years can only be used for calling.

Business Communication Solutions (BCS) that boasts a countrywide presence of Tuvugane phone operators is to market the service.

BCS has promised to give the operators free handsets and free airtime worth Frw20,000 during the promotion of the new phone.

Yvonne Manzi Makolo, Senior Manager - Sales and Marketing, MTN Rwanda said introducing a new compatible phone was part of MTN’s commitment to provide innovative products that cater for customer needs.

"We are currently finalising the testing of this new product and will be launching in the coming weeks,” Makolo said when contacted yesterday.
