THE national women volleyball has pulled out of the upcoming All Africa women volleyball qualifiers slated to take place in Uganda from April 20 to 28.
According to Rwanda Volleyball Federation secretary general, Christian Hatumimana, there wasn’t enough time to prepare the team because most of the players who play in the national team were participating in other tournaments.
"Most of the players that were supposed to take part in qualifiers were involved in the Africa club championship in Egypt and Olympic Games beach volleyball qualifiers, which ended recently, so there wasn’t enough time to prepare them for such an elite event,” Hatumimana said.
Six countries will take part in the All Africa women volleyball qualifies. They include; Uganda Kenya, Burundi, Tanzania, Egypt and Ethiopia. The top two will earn a ticket to this year’s All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville from September 4 to 19.
Meanwhile Rwanda will host the Men’s Volleyball Zone V group one tournament, from May 1 to 6. Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi and Tanzania will take part in the tournament.
The second group men’s volleyball zone 2 will be hosted in Ethiopia from May 7 to 13.
