NGOMA — Jean de Dieu Shyirambere, a victim of the September 21 Ngoma accident who is still admitted at Kibungo Hospital, has started receiving food and drinks from area residents after The New Times wrote about his plight. One of the donors, John Kananura, says he felt concerned when he heard about Shyirambere’s ordeal.
"I read it in The New Times and I was really touched. Though I cannot afford meeting his hospital bills at least I can offer him what to eat and drink as he waits for further treatment,” Kananura said.
"But I am still trying to consult other people so that we can help him be transferred to CHK,” he added.
Shyirambere, a senior six student at Gasetsa Secondary school, was admitted to Kibungo Hospital together with 17 others after a vehicle they were travelling in from Kigali to Kibungo collided with another taxi from the opposite direction at Kabare Remera, along Kayonza-Rusumo road in Ngoma district.
Seven people died in the accident, six of them on the spot, while the seventh died at hospital.
Fourteen others who were in critical condition were referred to Kigali Central Hospital (CHK) and Kanombe Hospital.
Two people, Shyirambere inclusive were referred to CHK a day after the accident but due to lack of funds, Shyirambere has remained at Kibungo.
