Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya women teams will compete in this year’s Cricket Genocide commemoration tournament scheduled for June 12-15 in Kigali.

The Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) will organise the event for the second year running, according to general manager, Joshua Mwanja. Last year, Rwanda women’s team played five matches against Uganda.

The tournament will be preceded by a visit to the Ntarama Memorial Centre, by  the visiting teams alongside the Rwanda cricket fraternity.  "We invite all the cricket fraternity to join us.

This event is about remembering the sportsmen and women, who were killed during the Genocide against Tutsi,” Mwanja told Times Sport on Wednesday.

He noted that, among  other activities, will be testimonies, from survivors in the cricket fraternity, introducing and playing cricket with the boys and girls at the memorial centre and giving gifts.

"At the end of the day, we shall give gifts like food-stuff, clothing, scholastic materials, and groceries to the children,” he noted.

He added, "As sports fraternity, we are joining fellow Rwandans to commemorate and remember the people who lost their lives during the Genocide that saw over one million people killed.”
