World Vision, a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families and the communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice, began working in Rwanda in 1994 after the genocide against Tutsi.

World Vision’s response to post-genocide humanitarian needs in Rwanda

When World Vision started in 1994, we were driven by the urgent and immediate need to provide short term relief including food, medicine, shelter and clothing to children and their families who had suffered the brunt of the genocide.

World Vision provided life-giving emergency aid to displaced people, helping them to resettle, as well as initiating and supporting efforts to care for thousands of children who had lost their parents.

Traumatized children were supported to heal, malnourished children were cared for and rehabilitated, and were later on facilitated to re-connect with their families.
