Rayon Sports lead the league with 20 points, three points ahead of closest challengers Institute of Agriculture and Technology of Kibungo (INATEK) 17 points while defending champions APR are third with 15 points.
Nyirimana’s team beat former champions Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC) 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 26-24 on Friday evening to keep their perfect start to the season. On Saturday evening APR lost to INATEK 3-2 (21-25, 17-25, 25-18, 25-18 and 11-15).
Former Rwanda international, Nyirimana led the National University of Rwanda to the league title in 2013 and wants to guide Rayon to their first league crown, two years since the club’s formation.
"I am delighted that we won against the big teams which gives us the motivation to continue to work hard and hope that we can go on to achieve our target of winning the league title, I believe we have a team that is good enough to compete favourably against anyone but it is a long way to go,” he said.
The first half of the national volleyball league ended on Saturday with the second half due to start after the Genocide commemoration week.
Meanwhile, GSP Algeria rebounded from a set behind to overwhelm Rwanda Revenue Authority 3-1 (19-25, 25-19, 25-6, and 25-22) to take 5th place at the CAVB Africa Champions Cup for Women in Cairo, Egypt on Saturday in a game that lasted 101 minutes.
