Olivier Karekezi was on target for his Norwegian team Ham Kam in a 2-1 win over fellow strugglers Aalesund who are rooted at the foot of the Tippeligaen league.
The Amavubi skipper was on target on 30th minute to earn his side the three points after Aalesund’s striker Aaroy had put his side on level terms canceling out Vegar Bjerke first minute opener.
The win leaves Ham Kam on 17 points on a fourteen league table two points ahead of Aalesund with eight left to play.
Karekezi may have enjoyed success with Amavubi Stars during the 2010 World/Africa qualifying campaign but fortunes seem to have changed for the worst for the 44 times capped international since his move from Swedish side Helsingborgs IF last season citing irreconcilable contract differences.
Karekezi who is on verge of playing low division football for the first time in his career moved from local giants APR Fc in 2005 signing for Sweden’s giants Helsingborg while he scored 11 goals thus becoming the team’s top scorer in Allsvenskan.
He stunned the football world in January 2008 when he transferred to Hamarkameratene, a move that deprived him a chance of European football.
Before his move to Tippeligaen league there were reports linking him to a big money move to English premiership side Wigan and Series A fallen giants Parma.
Ham Kam faces sixth-placed Rosenberg in the next fixture set for September 21.
Elsewhere in the Tippeligaen league, leaders Stabaek hammered ninth placed Stromsgodset 6-0. Swedish pair of Daniel Nannskog hit four and Johan Andersson nabbed a brace to Stabaek in position of winning the league title.
Valerenga lost to visitors Lyn Oslo, Fredrikstad was held by Rosenborg at home, Molde played a one-all draw against Lillestrom while SK Brann was held 1-1 at home by Viking Stavanger.
