RWANDA’S long distance ace Dieudonne Disi’s poor form on the international stage continued Sunday at the Fortis Half Marathon Rotterdam, Netherlands when he finished a disappointing eighth in a race were fellow East Africans, the Kenyans continued their dominance of the long distances in the international grand prix events.
Disi who is yet to record any win on international athletics calendar went into the just concluded Beijing Olympic Games hoping to do better however he put in a disappointing performance to finish a distant 19th in the 10000m race which was won by Ethiopia’s Kenenisa Bekele.
Disi clocked 60:06 minutes to finish in eighth position behind Kenyan trio of Patrick Musyoki, Evans Cheruiyot and Wilson Chebet.
This was the second race after the Olympics that Disi was taking part in. Earlier this month, he failed to do any better in the IAAF Brussels Grand prix.
The men’s race which was a thriller until the end saw, eventual winner Musyoki out sprinting defending champion Cheruiyot.
For the 23-year-old Makau Musyoki, it was his fifth victory in a half marathon and the second on the Dutch soil this year. Prior to the event, Disi clocked 59:32 but now his time has gone down to 60:06.
However, Disi managed to outrace Tanzania Dickson Marwa who finished 11th position, Kenyan rivals, Daniel Rono, Francis Kibiwott and Richard Limo to mention but a few.
Nevertheless, this is not the end of the road, as all participants who took part in the Fortis half marathon race will be vying for another chance to shine in the 3rd edition of the World half marathon due in Rio de Janiero, Brazil on October 12.
