The team which represented Rwanda in the Tour du Cameroon was largely a second string side that is comprised of veterans Nathan Byukusenge, Abraham Ruhumuriza Team Rwanda and other upcoming riders.

"We are disappointed with our performance in Cameroon, the riders were good enough to win the yellow jersey but they did not follow the coach’s instructions.

If any of the riders had won the competition, it would have increased our chances of taking part in the Olympic Games,” a disappointed Bayingana said.

The event was won by Clovis Kamzong of Cameroon. Team Rwanda rider Emile Bintunimana finished in third position in the general classification.

Meanwhile six teams which include Benediction Club (Rubavu), Les Amis Sportifs (Rwamagana), Cine Elmay ( Nyamirambo) Cycling Club for All ( Huye), Fly Cycling Club (Gasabo ) and Kiramuruzi Cycling Club (Kiramuruzi) will compete in the 135km Kivu Race from Muhanga to Rubavu today.

The one day competition is the first of the ten races in the 2015 Rwanda Cycling Cup that is sponsored by Skol and Cogebanque.

Over 45 riders will compete in the race with the winner walking away with Rfw100, 000.
