RUBAVU — Local leaders in Busesamana, Rubavu District have received 400 mobile handsets and 18 Easy call office phones. The equipment was bought from money raised from individual contributions by members of the existing cooperative unions in the area.
Jacqueline Bakunduseruye, the district Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs, said poor communication has previously hindered coordination between Busesamana sector leaders and the district authorities.
"We are optimistic that communication will improve on various services by connecting offices as well as connecting the sector to the provincial and district administration,” she said at a function to hand over the facilities to the Sector, cell and village leaders recently in Busesamana.
Jean Semikari, the sector coordinator said that area residents were living like in the ancient days when communication was poor.
"It has always been difficult to communicate with other leaders which has been a hindrance in the implementation of certain polices. We would move from door to door, from office to office to deliver communiqués but the easy call phones will ease communication among various offices in the sector which and we hope it will speed up the implementation of developmental government policies,” he said.
He appealed to telecommunication companies to extend full time mobile network services in the area, saying it would help them move on the same development pace with other Rwandans.
"Many residents in Busesamana are capable of owning phones. I’m sure it wouldn’t be a loss for telecommunication companies if they installed antennas here,” he added.
Other people who received the mobile phones included school head teachers and members of various cooperative unions.
