Foreign Aid policies should be realistic

Dear editor,

Foreign aid policies are a good thing for developing countries however, some policies do not apply to some countries.

I agree with what the President said that though The World Bank Group aims at shifting towards programmatic support with an intention of strengthening country policy ownership…this shift was based on the realisation that policy prescriptions and blue prints from the outside have never worked.

He said that history has proven this right that policies from outside have never worked. I also agree that what is needed is more effective customisation instead of the "one-size-fits-all” model – in support of national policy priorities defined by the client.

In order for Foreign Aid policies to work and be effective, bonds of mutual trust must be maintained so that a strong relationship of mutual concern between countries is built and established.

The international financing agencies should be encouraged to survey the right to access development finances to developing countries in this way their investments will be well placed and good results will be achieved.
