Reigning IPC World Champion in the Men’s 800m-T46 category Hermas Cliff Muvunyi will compete in the Men’s 1500m category today at 5:30pm (CAT) at the ongoing 9th Tunis International Meeting, Tunisia.
The three-day IPC Athletics Grand Prix competitions got underway yesterday and will climax tomorrow at the Rades Athletics Stadium, Tunis.
Last evening, sprint runner Jean Claude Ndayisenga was due to start his bid in the Men’s 200m while Muvunyi was due to race in the 800m category. However, by press time both races were yet to start.
The National Paralympic Committee (NPC) president, Celestin Nzeyimana, told Times Sport on Monday that he has no doubt about what Muvunyi is capable of doing and tipped him to win a medal at the annual event.
"There is no doubt about Muvunyi, he always lives to impress. He won gold (in 800m) and silver (in 400m) at the 2012 edition, we have full confidence in his ability to win a medal again,” a confident Nzeyimana said.
Tomorrow, Ndayisenga will compete in the 100m category starting 4:30pm before he and Ndayisenga could feature in the Men’s 400m 5:55pm. The duo is being coached by Eric Karasira.
