The Rusizi District leadership has urged those hailing from the district and now residing in the capital Kigali to support the district in its development agenda by attracting investments in different sectors.

Frederick Harelimana, the recently elected mayor of Rusizi, made the call on Sunday during a meeting with over 200 Kigali residents hailing from the Western Province district.

During the meeting in Kigali, the district leaders presented to the participants the district master plan showcasing available investment opportunities.

"You have a role to play in developing the district. Those that cannot invest, can always play an advocacy role to ensure the investment opportunities are fully exploited to develop our district,” he said.

According to the master plan, key areas of investment in Rusizi are in commerce, tourism, livestock, real estate and agro-processing.

He also encouraged them to support government programmes like Girinka, saying that when one buys a cow for their parents or relative, this directly impacts on the cattle-stocking programme.

As part of their contribution, those who hail from Rusizi who attended the meeting pledged to support their district.

"Some of us already have stable businesses here in different sectors. It was a good initiative by the district to show us the master plan. This certainly is an eye opener,” said Emmanuel Hategekimana, a Kigali based businessman.

Participants called upon the district leadership to go about their duties with transparency and dedication to help spur growth in the district.
