Soweto Gospel Choir will perform, on October 21, during the official opening of Trace Awards and Festival in Kigali at BK Arena.
The 22-year-old gospel choir that was formed in South Africa is now in Kigali for Trace Awards Festival that is happening for the very first time in Rwanda.
The three-time Grammy Award Winner Soweto Gospel choir, has been known for a long time in South Africa and across the world where they have traveled along. They have released so many albums like; Blessed in 2005, Hope, Blessed, Freedom and many more.
Their albums like Blessed, African Spirit and freedom won the Grammy Award for Best Traditional World Music Album in 2006, 2007 and 2019, respectively.
Soweto Gospel choir is known for the accapella music in their Zulu style. The Choir has become very popular all over the world due to their performances singing both in Zulu language and English as well.
Speaking to The New Times, on Friday, October 20, the choir shared their excitement of landing in Kigali Rwanda for the first time where they have been nominated for the best gospel artist category.
In the 2023 Trace Awards , Soweto Gospel Choir are in the same category with several artistes from different countries of this continent like; Benjamin Dube from South Africa, Janet Otieno from Kenya,KS Bloom Ivory Coast, Levixone Uganda and Moses Bliss from Nigeria.
