NYAMASHEKE — The foundation stone for the construction of a health centre in Rangiro, Nyamasheke District has been laid. It was laid at the weekend by the district mayor, Vincent Muragwa, together with Emmanuel Ndayino, an official from the Ministry of Health, who represented the Ministry’s Secretary General.
The health facility worth Frw163 million will be jointly funded by the government and the Belgium Technical Corporation (BTC) which will contribute about Frw80 million.
While addressing residents and district officials, Ndayino said that the move was aimed at extending medical services nearer to the people.
"The main objective of constructing a health centre in this sector is to enable all residents in the area to easily access medical services. I believe this will totally improve their health,” Ndayino said.
He urged the district management to cooperate with those contracted to do the work in order for it to be completed in time.
Muragwa commended the government and BTC for the decision, saying it would improve health standards in the area.
"On behalf of the district I thank Minisante and BTC for the initiative of building a health centre in this sector because it will help residents to acquire medication at a nearby place without moving long distances to Kirambo Hospital.”
Urging residents to join health insurance, Muragwa implored them to maintain the building when it gets finished. He also appealed to them to encourage expectant mothers to always give birth at health centres in order to reduce deaths related to pregnancy in the region.
