Rwandair has signed a codeshare agreement with Proflight Zambia on the Lusaka-Johannesburg route.

A codeshare deal is an arrangement where two or more airlines share the same flight.

Under the deal, RwandAir will operate as the main carrier on the route, while Proflight Zambia will operate as the marketing carrier, according to Gobena Mikael, the RwandAir general manager in charge of commerce.

"We are happy to see African carriers creating partnerships and synergies that will benefit the travellers,” MiKael said.

He said RwandAir will operate three flights a week on the route; Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, flying the Boeing 737-800 NextGen dual-class aircraft.

The two airlines are also expected to conclude an interline electronic ticketing deal soon to allow RwandAir customers to fly on Proflight planes with a single ticket, he added.

The deal will also allow Proflight customers to fly on RwandAir flights to Kigali and beyond on a single ticket, Mikael revealed.

RwandAir starts direct flights between Kigali and Lusaka on March 27.

Proflight airline is Zambia’s leading airline established in 1991. The airline operates domestic routes, and regional routes to Lilongwe in Malawi, and Lubumbashi in the DR Congo.
