KAMONYI — A fully equipped maternity ward has been commissioned at Remera-Rukoma Hospital in Kamonyi District. The three-roomed extension block worth Frw24 million was built by Intra-Health/Twubakane, a USAID-funded decentralisation and health programme.

"Over 900 mothers giving birth at the hospital per month will now have more space and better services after years of being treated under harsh conditions,” Felix Gafurymba, the district health director said at the commissioning last week.

Gafurymba also noted that a sensitisation campaign among mothers on pre/post natal consultations has increased numbers of expectant mothers seeking antenatal services.

District and hospital officials commended Intra-Health/Twubakane for the continued support in providing better health services and implementation of district health policies.

Intra-Health/Twubakane has previously donated medical equipment worth Frw10 million to all health centres in the district.

"We are proud to receive equipment from Intra-Health/Twubakane and patients will be treated under proper medical conditions. Medical staff will also increase their out-put,” said Dr Paul Bwito, the Director of Remera-Rukoma Hospital.
