NORTHERN PROVINCE

MUSANZE — Business in Ruhengeri town on Saturday came to a standstill during the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) final parliamentary rally.

Motorists, cyclists, and the entire town dwellers jammed the roads as they marched to the district stadium for the rally.

Amid cheering, party supporters sang on top of their voices as Akagera Civil Aviation helicopter hovered over the town dropping party stickers. As the helicopter finally landed, supporters continued yelling and dancing to party songs.

Every sector had a representative who highlighted at least a special past achievement which RPF had pioneered in their respective areas.

The poverty eradication programme of One Cow One Family; the booming tourism in the area; roads, cooperatives and cash crop growing featured most on the list of achievements.

At the rally, one Mukingo, a former publicist for rebel outfit FDLR in the area, said that despite his treason crimes, he had been forgiven by RPF, incorporated into society and has been one of the beneficiaries of the cattle programme.

The guests at the function included Domitilla Mukantaganzwa, the Executive Secretary of the National Jurisdiction of Gacaca; Pastor Fred Nyamurangwa, a commissioner in the Demobilisation and Reintegration Commission; Celestin Karabayinga, the district Mayor.
